Awaiting a word from God

Merely asking and waiting for a word from God may be inappropriate, scilicet the attitude of an infant awaiting parental care and step-by-step guidance.
I think, certain religions are misunderstood: as a cosy mother's lap or womb onto or respectively into which the believer can flee from the needs and deficiencies and discrepancies and hardships and dilemmas of the world, in a word: flee from the world itself.
I can't believe that such a childishness could be just that child-like mindset that has been praised in Jesus's Sermon on the Mount.
